Congratulations on your 100th birthday!
Elli Göhre celebrates her "round" birthday on 9 October 2012
Elli Göhre, née Kuhl, was born on 9 October 1912 in Schmerkendorf and grew up with her two siblings in the family home. She experienced the First World War as a child and was already married at the beginning of the Second World War, giving birth to her son Siegfried in January 1940. Her husband Richard was drafted as a soldier and had to hold out in French captivity until 1948 after the end of the war.
Elli Göhre did not have it easy during this time and enjoyed her hobbies all the more in later years. An allotment garden was her pride and joy and, if there was still time, she enjoyed going for walks or reading a good book. After her husband's death in 1988, she lived in a two-room flat in the Flemming area of Chemnitz until she was 84. Today, she lives with her son and daughter-in-law in their family home and is lovingly cared for. The family now hopes that Elli Göhre's health will be good enough for them to celebrate her 100th birthday together.
