Conference and presentation of the Sustainability Award

For the third time, Chemnitz is hosting the Saxon Sustainability Conference, which is jointly organised by the Saxon Hans-Carl-von-Carlowitz Society, the City of Chemnitz and the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The programme was presented to the media today by the Chairman of the Saxon Hans Carl von Carlowitz Society, Dr Dieter Füsslein.
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will welcome the guests next Saturday from 9.30 a.m. in the opera house. Günther Öttinger, EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Thomas Schmidt, Minister of State for the Environment and Agriculture, Alois Glück, President of the Central Committee of German Catholics and Christiane Grefe, author of "Die ZEIT", among others, will be among the renowned laudators. Visitors are cordially invited to the 3rd Sustainability Conference. Admission is free.
Sustainability Award 2015
Dr Janez Potočnik, Slovenian politician and former EU Commissioner, will receive the Sustainability Award in the Europe category. He will also give a keynote speech on the topic of "Unavoidable change: In search of a new economic development model".
In the National category, the German biologist and agronomist Prof Michael Succow will be honoured and give a speech entitled "My ecological world view". This year, Succow can also look forward to receiving the German Environmental Award honour for his many years of commitment from the German Federal Environmental Foundation.
The third winner, this time in the Global category, is Prince El Hassan bin Talal. The 68-year-old is a member of the ruling house of Jordan and is known for his support of tolerant Islam. Last year, he was awarded the Tolerance Ring of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Prince El Hassan bin Talal will give the keynote speech on the topic of "Global energy transition and interreligious dialogue".
In addition to the awards and speeches, the Municipal Music School and the ballet of the Municipal Theatre will ensure an entertaining morning.
