Conclusion of the 2014/2015 Solar League

Chemnitz with a third and fifth place

Last weekend, the champions of the German Solar League for the 2014/2015 season were honoured in the municipality of Kirchweidach in Upper Bavaria. With 29,600 square metres of installed collector area, which corresponds to 0.12 square metres per inhabitant, Chemnitz was able to achieve 3rd place among the major cities in the solar heating category. In the overall ranking for solar heat and solar power, the city came 5th and was the only Saxon city with more than 100,000 inhabitants to make it into the top 25.

This year, more than 2,400 municipalities and around 900 districts took part in the nationwide competition. The aim of the Solarbundesliga is to honour the use of solar energy in towns and municipalities. These municipalities compete in five size categories for the highest degree of expansion of solar heating and photovoltaics. There is also a separate classification for dependent districts. Districts can also be honoured accordingly.

The solar installations of citizens, private companies, the municipal administration and municipal subsidiaries are included in the evaluation.
