On Monday, 7 April at 6.30 pm, interested parties are invited to the concert "Im Doppelspiegel" with the internationally acclaimed pianist, composer and presenter of new music Steffen Schleiermacher from Leipzig in the chamber music hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School.
Admission is free of charge.
Steffen Schleiermacher will speak and perform from the piano on the subject of "In the Double Mirror" about his composition teachers Siegfried Thiele and Friedrich Goldmann, who also have an international reputation for their work. Both were born in neighbourhoods of what is now Chemnitz, grew up here and received their first musical training in the city.
Thiele was particularly highly regarded for the performance of one of his works at the opening of the New Gewandhaus in Leipzig in 1981 and as the first rector of the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Academy of Music and Theatre there after German reunification.
Goldmann, on the other hand, worked in Berlin as a member of the Academy of Arts, from 1991 at the Berlin University of the Arts and as an orchestra conductor in Germany and abroad.
Steffen Schleiermacher, born in Halle/Saale, studied at the Academy of Music in Leipzig, was a master student at the Academy of Arts and completed additional studies at the Cologne University of Music in 1989/90. He has directed the "musica nova" concert series at the Gewandhaus Leipzig since 1988. Since 1990, concert and lecture tours have taken him to almost every country in Europe, the USA, South America, South East Asia and the Far East. Around 90 CD recordings attest to his mastery as a pianist of contemporary music, including a recording of the complete piano works of John Cage.
The concert is organised by the Chemnitzer Musikverein e. V. in cooperation with the Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz.
