Spacious outdoor area created: school and after-school care centre to share space in future
In terms of the educational landscape, the city of Chemnitz always endeavours to ensure a stable and balanced range of services. This is reflected not least in the numerous construction measures at schools of various types, which are currently being carried out or are planned for the coming years and will contribute to improving the individual framework conditions on site.
As part of the planned construction measures for the interior renovation of the Heinrich Heine primary school, a future-oriented school location was developed on the basis of the applicable standards for schools and after-school care centres, which enables the implementation of a high-quality educational offer.
Against this backdrop, attractive break and leisure areas are intended to contribute to relaxation and round off the school day. As a result of numerous rounds of consultations with various stakeholders, Chemnitz City Council is now laying the groundwork for this.
The plan is to operate the "Sonneninsel" day care centre at Augsburger Straße 36 entirely as an after-school care facility for the Heinrich Heine primary school. As the school and after-school care centre will therefore be able to use the respective outdoor areas together in future, a spacious area will be created that will offer the children significantly more space to play, discover and run around all day. In addition, the conditions for spatial synergy effects will also be created, which will contribute to flexibility in the organisation of the curriculum and educational plans.
In this context, the building at Bernsdorfer Straße 120 will be converted into a daycare centre in order to continue to provide attractive childcare places for the children of "Sonneninsel".
The final course for this is to be set on 2 May 2017 in the Youth Welfare Committee with the concept for the after-school care centre at Heinrich Heine Primary School.
