Grand reception for the Chemnitz participants of the Winter Olympics, the World Championships in Athletics and the Track Cycling World Championships on Thursday, 20 March at 2 p.m. in the Ratskeller (Marktstuben) - entry of the athletes in the city's Golden Book
With the Olympic Games in Sochi, the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Sopot, Poland, and the World Track Cycling Championships in Cali, Colombia, the still young sporting year has already seen a number of highlights. Including many athletes from Chemnitz who have represented their city. Their achievements will now be honoured with a grand reception - and an entry in the city's Golden Book.
The reception will take place next Thursday, 20 March at 2 pm in the Ratskeller, Marktstuben. Our Olympic athletes Nico Ihle and Alexej Baumgärtner, the world championship cyclists Stefan Bötticher, Joachim Eilers and Max Niederlag as well as shot putter David Storl and shot putter Christina Schwanitz will be there. Sports mayor Philipp Rochold and hopefully many Chemnitz sports fans will give the athletes a great reception. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to get an autograph or two.
At the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, speed skater Nico Ihle narrowly missed out on a medal with a sensational fourth place in the 1,000m sprint. Alexej Baumgärtner achieved a good 13th place over the long distance of 10,000 metres. Stefan Bötticher and Joachim Eilers both won silver at the Track Cycling World Championships. Their young team-mate Max Niederlag achieved an excellent 6th place in his first World Championships. And shot putter David Storl and shot putter Christina Schwanitz crowned their top performances at the World Athletics Championships in Sopot, Poland, with the runner-up world title.
