Complex daycare centre renovation begins in Hilbersdorf
The municipal daycare centre in Ludwig-Richter-Straße in Hilbersdorf will be completely renovated from 18 February. After the city council decided this in 2012, the municipal building management department prepared the complex project with construction plans and public tenders. As the daycare centre in Hilbersdorf consists of two facilities, the 221 children now occupy two interim quarters. Children and teachers from daycare centre I "Sachsenspatzen" already moved into a building at Sonnenstraße 42 last week. The construction period is expected to last until summer 2014.
The alternative building was previously used as a daycare centre and later as a youth facility and therefore had to be refurbished with painting, sanitary and flooring work before the children could move in. The move of the 107 children and 12 teachers has already gone smoothly. There has also been nothing but positive feedback from the parents.
Ten teachers and 103 children from the second daycare centre called "Filou" are currently moving to a building at 197 Usti nad Labem Street. The city is also using this building as alternative accommodation in the event of daycare centre renovations. Although the families affected usually have to make a longer journey during the construction period, all parents with a view to the newly renovated building in Hilbersdorf decided not to tear their child away from their usual group of children.
The Hilbersdorf kindergarten building from the 1980s is badly in need of repair and consists of two side wings. There is still a lack of space for educational work that meets today's requirements. The spatial concept of the complex will therefore be changed during the reconstruction. In future, a new children's kitchen and rooms of different sizes will be available for group work in the integrative daycare centre.
In each of the two buildings, a large opening is planned between the group rooms so that they can be used together if necessary. These new openings can be closed off with folding partitions. The two cramped entrance areas are also to be redesigned and barrier-free access to the basement level created.
In the side wing of House I, a large changing area for the children and a new therapy and exercise room as well as the aforementioned children's kitchen will be created. In addition, storage rooms, a staff room and a sanitary room for the nursery teachers will also be housed there in future. The second building houses a sports and multi-purpose room, which will have a new wall to separate the equipment store.
Group rooms and common rooms will be fitted with acoustic ceilings and sound-absorbing flooring. The construction project also includes the renovation of the basement floor, the façade and the roof with a thermal insulation system. In addition, new windows that meet the requirements of the Energy Saving Ordinance are to be installed. The municipal building management is also planning to reduce operating costs by installing a rainwater utilisation system to supply water to the toilets. A solar thermal system will also provide environmentally friendly, energy-efficient heating and hot water. The electrical installation and the building alarm system are also to be completely renewed.
The costs total around 3,162,000 euros, with around 289,478 euros planned for the renovation of the outside area and the addition of equipment. Funding totalling 721,849 euros has already been applied for for this investment.
