Completion of the cycle traffic routing on Zwickauer Straße
On Tuesday, 9 June, the construction work to improve cycle traffic guidance on Zwickauer Straße between Marianne-Brandt-Straße and Barbarossastraße will be completed.
The stationary traffic lights on the landward carriageway will be put back into operation. Turning left into Goethestraße will then also be possible again.
The new cycle path connection between the previous end of the cycle lane in front of Marianne-Brandt-Straße and the cycle path after Barbarossastraße can already be used. Between Zwickauer Straße No. 62 and Barbarossastraße, there was previously no cycle lane for around 230 metres. This previously ended in the landward lane before the junction with Marianne-Brandt-Straße and required cyclists to merge into the flow of traffic. This led to dangerous situations. Traffic safety has now been significantly improved by extending the hard shoulder to a width of 1.85 metres over the Barbarossastrasse junction.
The construction costs totalled around 200,000 euros. The Free State of Saxony is supporting this project with around 80 per cent of the funding for municipal road and bridge construction.
The construction work was carried out by BS Uni-Bau GmbH from Chemnitz.
