Completion of coordinated construction project: Kopernikusstraße between Keplerstraße and bridge over railway line
Tomorrow, Friday, the section of Kopernikusstraße between Keplerstraße and the bridge over the former railway line will be reopened to pedestrian and vehicular traffic without restrictions.
In the period from mid-August 2017 to 15 November 2018, the sewerage system and the natural gas and drinking water pipe network were renewed on Kopernikusstraße, a communication route was laid and the road and footpath were built.
The extension section was around 430 metres long. The road was constructed with a standard width of 5.50 metres. A one-sided parking lane was created along the route, which is interrupted by individual footpath projections for pedestrians to cross the carriageway safely. The construction project was carried out in three construction phases. Following the completion of the first section between Keplerstrasse and Sterzelstrasse in 2017, the two further sections were realised after a one-month winter break in February until mid-November 2018.
The total construction costs amount to approx. 1.4 million euros. The largest construction costs, totalling 510,000 euros, were for the sewer construction (waste disposal company). The remainder is accounted for by the civil engineering department's road construction (490,000 euros) and the media renewal of the one (400,000 euros).
The construction work was carried out by Gunter Hüttner + Co GmbH, Bauunternehmung Chemnitz.
