Complete renovation of the Gablenz indoor swimming pool will be more expensive
Reopening for swimming planned after the Easter holidays
The costs for the second construction phase of the complete renovation of the Gablenz indoor swimming pool have increased by around 722,000 euros, contrary to what was planned. The administration informed the Administration and Finance Committee of this yesterday. The reasons for this are the insolvency of a contracted construction company, defects in the building fabric and technical systems discovered during the construction work, delays in the construction process and the necessary removal of mould damage caused by defective roof sealing and insulation during the construction work. Possible recourse claims against the companies involved are currently being examined by the city administration.
The approx. 722,000 euros still required for the construction work are to be covered by additional investment grants from the Free State of Saxony. A decision on this is to be made by the city council at its meeting on 11 April 2018.
The Gablenz indoor swimming pool is expected to reopen at the beginning of April 2018 following extensive renovation work. As part of the renovation measures, the ventilation and water technology, the electrical systems, the entire swimming pools, the sound acoustics, the changing areas and the glass façade, including the roofing, were modernised. The fire protection concept was also implemented structurally. The outdoor facilities will be completed by the summer, depending on the weather. The renovation of the changing areas, which was initially planned for 2019, was brought forward into the ongoing construction work so that further closures for pool visitors and clubs could be avoided in the coming year.
