Community gardens in Chemnitz - a cycle tour with a view over the garden fence
Event organised by the adult education centre on 26 September, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The adult education centre invites you to explore the numerous community gardens in Chemnitz on Saturday 26 September from 10 am to 3 pm. On a guided bike tour, you can discover the community gardens, their initiators and the stories behind their creation. The meeting point is at Zietenpark, Zietenstraße 16 and participation is free of charge. You will need your own bike. Registration is recommended: www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488-4343.
The cycle tour offers an overview of the colourful "urban gardens" project landscape in Chemnitz. An approximately six-kilometre route leads over the Sonnenberg to the Yorck area. The route provides insights into the special features of the gardens and the stories of their active supporters. There will also be plenty of tips and tricks for gardening, with time for lunch in between.
Garden sponsors, garden sharing, co-gardeners, rental beds, shared gardens and community gardens are just some of the many ways of getting involved in urban spaces, with or without green fingers. In Chemnitz too, gardens and green spaces tended by neighbours, associations, groups of friends or neighbourhood initiatives are now part of the cityscape. You don't necessarily need your own allotment or plot of land to grow vegetables or relax.
The event is a cooperation between SDB e. V. - Netzwerk Sprossachse and the adult education centre. It is part of the "Living Consciously" course series, which is committed to the conscious use of the world's resources.
