Commissioning of the Chemnitz - Erzgebirge - Central Saxony integrated regional control centre completed

Joint press release by the City of Chemnitz and the District Office of Central Saxony

On the morning of 5 December 2018 at 6.22 a.m., the successful switchover from the Freiberg control centre to the integrated regional control centre (IRLS) in Chemnitz marked the successful commissioning of the Chemnitz IRLS.

The first emergency call from the Central Saxony area was received by the IRLS in Chemnitz at 6.31 am.

The IRLS in Chemnitz now covers a control centre area of 4,162 km² and is responsible for almost one million inhabitants.

In future, all emergency calls for the fire brigade, rescue services and civil protection will be received by the IRLS in Chemnitz via the standardised European number 112 from the areas of the city of Chemnitz, the Erzgebirgskreis and the district of Mittelsachsen and processed around the clock by 85 dispatchers working in shifts at 18 control centres.

Apart from the prefix for the ambulance telephone number 0371 / 19 222, nothing will change for people seeking help and callers from the previous Freiberg control centre area.

For residents in the catchment area of the former Freiberg control centre area, the commissioning of the new control centre will not result in any significant changes. The fire and rescue services can be reached as usual via the number 112. The only change is that the Chemnitz area code (0371) 19 222 must now be dialled for requests for ambulance transport.

People with physical disabilities can also make an emergency call directly to 112 by fax. The necessary form (multilingual) and additional information can be found at www.feuerwehr-chemnitz.org and www.chemnitzer-feuerwehr.de.

The Integrated Regional Control Centre is based on an agreement between the city of Chemnitz, the Erzgebirgskreis district, the Mittelsachsen district and the Chemnitz-Erzgebirge Rescue Association from 2010. The foundation stone for the new building was laid on 12 September 2012.

The now completed construction of the IRLS began on 22 March 2017 with the connection of the city of Chemnitz and the former district of Stollberg, followed by the connection of the Grimma control centre (former district of Döbeln) on 29 August 2017, the Annaberg control centre (former districts of Annaberg and Mittlerer Erzgebirgskreis) on 1 March 2018, the connection of the former district of Erzgebirgskreis on 1 March 2018 and the connection of the former district of Döbeln on 1 March 2018. March 2018, the connection of the old district of Aue-Schwarzenberg from the IRLS in Zwickau on 8 May 2018 and has now been completed with the takeover of the Freiberg control centre for the district of Central Saxony on 5 December 2018.
