Comics, mangas & co for download without limit
City Library: Access to 20,000 digital comics, graphic novels and mangas in English - from 1 June
From Saturday 1 June, anyone with a valid Chemnitz City Library card will be able to download more than 20,000 English-language comics, manga and graphic novels onto their tablet or smartphone. There are no borrowing limits for users: you can browse through as many comics as you like, there are no waiting times for the digital books and you can keep them for as long as you like. The apps exist under the name "Library Pass" for Android and iOS operating systems.
The city library's new digital service will initially run for two years, until the end of May 2026, and will hopefully be extended if it is used extensively. The service, which is funded by the Europe-wide initiative "The Europe Challenge", can also be used on a PC via a web browser.
Via the link: https://stadtchemnitzcl.librarypass.com you can browse both the children's collection and the complete collection.
The range includes renowned publishers such as Dark Horse, Europe Comics, Capstone, Tokyopop, Toon Books, Yen Press and Manga Classics.
In addition to the popular comics from Minecraft, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Stranger Things, for example, there are also a few insider tips to discover. In addition to individual titles, comic artists and publishers, you can also search for specific categories or keywords. The latest additions can always be found on the homepage and a current collection "All the feels", for example, deals with comics on various more serious topics, such as mental health, wars or discrimination.
Comics and manga are among the most popular media in youth culture and have been an integral part of the development of print collections in public libraries for children, young people and adults for many years, as well as an important component of reading promotion, especially for young people and boys.
With their short dialogues and visualised stories, comics and graphic novels are easy-to-understand, fantastic tools for practising English language skills. Users who are not native German speakers will also find an extended range of books.
