Combining nature and art
Museum education programmes for the special exhibition "VIBRANT MATTER"
The Museum für Naturkunde is offering special educational programmes to accompany the special exhibition "VIBRANT MATTER - Fossil Treasures Reflected by the International Artist Shannon Murphy". Both offers are designed to reduce the barriers between art and natural science and encourage an open dialogue.
"Colours - The colourful world of the artist Nature" - for pre-school, primary and special needs pupils:
With magnifying glass in hand, explore how artist Shennon Murphy's paintings are constructed. On a journey of discovery, you will learn exciting details about colourful minerals and curious shapes as well as what the paintings, the Chemnitz Petrified Forest and a smartphone have in common. At the end of the event, a personal work of art is created at the light table. A clever combination of colours and shapes creates interesting overlapping effects.
"GeoQuiz - The big puzzle about art and nature" - for high school, grammar school and vocational school students:
With an interactive quiz, you explore the museum and experience the connection between art and natural science while solving tricky puzzles and experiments. Science teaches us to formulate hypotheses, test them using various methods, interpret the results and find valid conclusions. Art teaches us to develop arguments, to question our own point of view and to respect the opinions of others.
The events will take place until the end of the special exhibition (on 26 November 2017) on the following dates
23/24 October and 2/3, 7/9, 13/16, 21/23 November,
from 9.15 am to 10.15 am and 10.45 am to 11.45 am.
The number of participants per date is limited to 25.
