Combined construction project on Neefestraße near Neefepark
Extension of the Neefestraße threading lane, bridge renovation and carriageway renewal
At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council approved a three-part construction project on Neefestraße near Neefepark. On the one hand, the single lane onto Neefestraße from Neefepark will be extended. Secondly, the Neefestraße bridge over the access road to Neefepark will be renovated. In this context, the carriageway on the city side of Neefestraße from the motorway junction to the Südring junction will also be renewed. Traffic will then be routed in both directions on the landward carriageway in sections.
The extension of the merging lane is necessary because an increasing number of traffic accidents have been recorded here in recent years and this area has been categorised as an accident blackspot. Extending the merging lane from the previous 45 metres to approx. 120 metres will reduce the risk of accidents and significantly increase traffic flow.
Combining the three construction measures will result in synergy effects. In addition, traffic will only be restricted once for all road users, residents and inter-regional traffic.
In the course of the construction work, 65 trees will be felled. New trees will be planted elsewhere to compensate.
The construction work will begin in the second quarter of 2020 and is expected to last nine months.
The total costs amount to €5.1 million, of which €3.1 million has been applied for funding in accordance with the guidelines for the promotion of municipal road construction.
