On Monday, 9 March at 11 a.m., representatives of the media are invited to a photo session in the park Am Roten Turm/Stadthallenpark. The gardeners from the City of Chemnitz Parks Department will be planting spring bloomers in the flower beds. Together with the flower bulbs planted in autumn, they will add a colourful touch to the cityscape.
Master gardener Ilka Voigt, who planned the planting, will be happy to talk to you.
A total of 12,750 pansies will be planted over 488 square metres in the beds in the city centre. In the park by the Red Tower alone, 8,250 blue pansies, 3,000 golden yellow pansies and 2,140 planted flower bulbs will bloom. These were already planted in autumn 2025 and will create a successful overall arrangement with yellow daffodils, creamy white tulips and red imperial crowns.
The planting on the castle square begins today. A further 500 wine-red, golden yellow and pale yellow pansies with purple edges will display their flowers there. These heralds of spring have an unusual flower shape, which is wavy and fringed.
The cost of the spring bloomers totalled around 5,000 euros. The Parks Department has once again commissioned the nursery Falk Horn from Geringswalde to grow and supply these spring bloomers.
