Colourful family festival at the Schloßbergmuseum
On Wednesday, 16 November, the Day of Prayer and Repentance, from 2 pm to 6 pm, interested parties are invited to a colourful family festival at the Schloßbergmuseum. Admission costs 4 euros for adults and is free for children and young people up to the age of 18.
Under the motto "History(s) from the monastery, castle and town. Experience - Touch - Try", families can experience the wide range of educational programmes in and around the historic walls of the Schloßberg Museum. The family festival is all about markets and princely camps, the splendour of clothing and dress codes, medieval professions and armour and weapons.
The monastery librarian reads stories, legends and anecdotes and a herbalist gives a vivid introduction to medical herbalism. In the inner courtyard, the historical art of fencing is shown and its historical context explained. A fencing school also gives visitors the opportunity to swing a sword under instruction.
The monastery scriptorium demonstrates the creation of medieval manuscripts. The craft of rope-making can be tried out on a rope bench, for example.
The museum can also be visited on this day with its permanent exhibitions on Gothic sculpture and the Chemnitz History Picture Room as well as (tip!) the two special exhibitions "Metamorphosis" and "Sound of the Big City".
