Co-operation between the CWE and the Erzgebirge Tourism Association

Chemnitzer Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (CWE) and the Erzgebirge Tourism Association (TVE) signed a cooperation agreement today. This seals a close partnership in projects and communication measures for the tourism marketing of the Erzgebirge and the city of Chemnitz.

The agreement was signed today by Lord Mayor Sven Schulze and Frank Vogel, District Administrator of the Erzgebirgskreis, as well as CWE Managing Director Sören Uhle and TVE Managing Director Ines Hanisch-Lupaschko at the Berghotel Pöhlberg in Annaberg-Buchholz.

Lord Mayor Sven Schulze:

"Chemnitz is once again a modern business location that thrives on its medium-sized, innovative companies and its can-do mentality. We also have great potential in tourism. Our city offers a wide range of art and culture. In addition to a diverse independent cultural scene that makes our city vibrant, we also have a fantastic museum landscape. Just recently, the art collections hosted a world-class exhibition entitled "Brücke und Blauer Reiter".

The title of European Capital of Culture 2025 is a major task, also in organisational terms. Chemnitz wants to utilise the opportunities of the Capital of Culture for tourism and is breaking new ground to do so. Co-operation with the surrounding area is absolutely central to this. While Chemnitz is aiming to develop a joint destination in the north with the Zwickau tourism region and the Rochlitz Mulde Valley, the tourism cooperation with the Ore Mountains is primarily intended to market the Capital of Culture projects such as the purple path and present a unified front to the Czech Republic and the tourism hotspot of Prague. Today's signing marks the beginning of tourism co-operation with our surrounding region, from which we can all only benefit."

District Administrator Frank Vogel:

"Tourism as an economic factor plays an important role in the Ore Mountains. With numerous leading products such as the Stoneman Miriquidi, the quality hiking trail Kammweg Erzgebirge-Vogtland and the BLOCKLINE bike adventure, the region generates a high level of appeal beyond Saxony's borders. Furthermore, the Ore Mountains are the destination with the highest number of overnight stays in the Free State of Saxony and impressively emphasise the priority of tourism. More than any other low mountain range region, the Erzgebirge stands for unique natural landscapes, excellent activities in summer and winter, the splendour of Christmas and for living craftsmanship. Above all, however, it has its origins in more than 800 years of mining history, to which the Erzgebirge owes its name, its wealth and its economic importance. The people and hosts are characterised by their warmth, inventiveness and down-to-earth attitude.

Both the UNESCO World Heritage title of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region and the title of European Capital of Culture 2025 offer numerous points of contact for promising cooperation, particularly through their respective thematic pillars and building blocks. With today's signing of the cooperation agreement, both partners agree to utilise their opportunities to gain increased attention and recognition together and to successfully establish themselves as a borderless region in the centre of Europe."

Content of the cooperation:

The focus is on intensified networking and the joint creation of tourism offers that appeal to both guests and the local population. Particularly with a view to the neighbouring country of the Czech Republic, it is important to act together and represent regional interests and contribute the respective strengths. Projects such as mining experience days, industrial heritage days and the European Peace Ride should be closely co-operated.
