Closure of a clearing centre for unaccompanied refugee minors
The clearing centre for unaccompanied refugee minors at Friedrich-Hähnel-Straße 9 in the Helbersdorf district, which opened in February 2016, will cease operations at the end of the year.
The facility can now be used for another form of accommodation. A youth residential group for eight unaccompanied foreign minors of various nationalities was set up there at the end of November. This is one of the first residential groups in Chemnitz to accommodate both foreign boys and girls. They continue to be cared for by Heim gGmbH.
The closure of one of the two Chemnitz clearing centres is due to the drop in the number of asylum seekers.
The clearing house at Ritterstraße 7 in the city centre will continue to operate.
The facility is managed by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Kreisverband Chemnitz und Umgebung (AWO).
