On Frankenberger Straße between Hohlweg and Glösaer Straße, a further measure of the Chemnitz cycle traffic concept will be implemented by the end of the week with the marking of a protective lane on both sides.

The measure will be carried out as a "travelling construction site" so that traffic can flow in both directions. Road users are asked to pay increased attention.

The cost of the road markings is 8,500 euros.

Hard shoulders are marked by a guideline, are a regular part of the carriageway and therefore do not have a blue cycle path sign. They are only marked with a white "cyclist" pictogram. Cars are not allowed to park on marked hard shoulders and may only drive over them if necessary, for example when two large vehicles meet. Cyclists must not be jeopardised in the process. Cyclists may leave the hard shoulder to overtake and turn left.

In Chemnitz, hard shoulders are already being used successfully on various roads, such as Zschopauer Straße, Annaberger Straße and Straße der Nationen.
