Climate change affects small farmers. Consequences for fair trade?
On Wednesday, 14 November at 7 pm, a lecture will be held at the city's environmental centre, Henriettenstraße 5, on the topic of "Climate change meets small farmers. Consequences for fair trade". The speaker will be Frank Herrmann, author of the guidebook "Fair einkaufen - aber wie?". Admission is free.
The majority of the world's food is produced by small farmers. The pressure on them has grown considerably in recent years. In addition to increased global competition and land scarcity, it is climate change in particular that is causing problems for farmers in countries of the global South. They are the first to suffer from the global rise in temperature, which is mainly caused by industrialised countries and emerging economies. Small farmers who produce for Fair Trade are also dependent on stable weather conditions, which have now become the exception. In his presentation, Frank Herrmann explains what a changing global climate means for small farmers in Fair Trade, what they are doing to counter these difficulties, how they are supporting their trading partners and what we can do for small farmers.
