Cleanliness campaign at bus stops
Some bus stops in the city have recently been equipped with new waste bins. In contrast to the widely used blue plastic bins, the new bins are made of steel and, with a volume of 70 litres, have around a third more capacity. In addition, the bins are equipped with an extra compartment for cigarettes so that the remains can now be disposed of without worrying about the risk of fire. Thanks to their sturdy construction, the bins are significantly less susceptible to vandalism.
The background to the campaign is to improve cleanliness at bus stops. This is regularly criticised by customers and the city's external quality assessors. A concept was therefore developed between the city administration's civil engineering department, ASR and CVAG to improve the appearance of stops that are particularly problematic in terms of cleanliness.
Based on the new design for stops with grey installation elements, the bins are also grey. In addition, there is a white pictogram on the front of the bin and a surrounding white stripe. This stripe improves the contrast and thus the visibility of the bins for visually impaired people, a small step towards even greater accessibility.
The purchase and installation costs of just under 60,000 euros for the approximately 260 bins will be borne by the City of Chemnitz. Installation is being carried out in two stages. The first wave of installation was completed by ASR employees at the end of March.
