City welcomes five cultural ambassadors to the programme council of the Capital of Culture bid

From more than 50 applications, the Capital of Culture Secretariat has selected five Chemnitz residents as cultural ambassadors to work on the programme council for the Capital of Culture bid.
On 11 May 2017 at 11 a.m., the Capital of Culture Secretariat invites representatives of the media to a press conference with the five cultural ambassadors of the Programme Council in the TIETZ, 3rd floor, room 3.29.
The cultural ambassadors will introduce themselves. Ferenc Csák, Head of Cultural Operations and Head of the Capital of Culture project, will explain their tasks in the Programme Council and, together with Egmont Elschner, Chairman of the Cultural Advisory Board and member of the steering group for the strategic management of the Capital of Culture application, will talk about plans to involve all Cultural Ambassador applicants in the Capital of Culture project.
By resolution of the City Council on 25 January 2017, five honorary cultural ambassadors were sought for the Programme Council. The call for applications for the five cultural ambassadors ended on 12 April 2017. The cultural ambassadors are citizens of all age groups in the city of Chemnitz who agree to support the application process in terms of content and concept.
Explanation:
The Steering Group was appointed by the City Council on 8 February 2017 to strategically manage the bid. It sets priorities in terms of content, defines framework conditions and prepares other necessary City Council resolutions.
The Programme Council carries out the creative work for the bid. It develops the concept for the Capital of Culture and collects ideas and proposals. It is advised on the programme work by international experts.
A Capital of Culture Secretariat was established for project management and project organisation by resolution of the City Council on 25 January 2017. During the preparation of the bid, the staff of the Capital of Culture Secretariat are responsible for administrative and controlling tasks and cultural policy work. They also develop concepts for public participation. The head of the European Capital of Culture project is Ferenc Csák, Head of Cultural Operations for the City of Chemnitz.
The European Capitals of Culture help to emphasise the richness, diversity and commonalities of Europe's cultural heritage and facilitate a better understanding of Europe's citizens for one another. The title has been awarded for one year at a time since 1985.
