City wants to support NINERS

Purchase of advertising rights planned for 120,000 euros - proposal to the city council

The city of Chemnitz wants to help the NINERS gain promotion to the first Bundesliga. To this end, the city would like to purchase advertising rights totalling 120,000 euros from the NINERS. The administration is proposing this to the city council for the meeting on 15 July.

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "After an outstanding season in the second division, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the NINERS have managed to gain promotion. With our commitment, we want to help them promote our city with their likeable team in the first Bundesliga in the coming season. The NINERS will be excellent ambassadors for the city of Chemnitz."

The NINERS have had to cancel games due to the pandemic and have lost important revenue as a result. They also have to expect fewer spectators for the coming season due to the coronavirus pandemic. This means a lack of income from ticket sales. It can also be assumed that the current situation will mean that sponsorship and advertising income cannot be generated to the extent originally planned.

In order to actually be able to play in the first division, the NINERS must provide proof of a corresponding budget to Basketball Bundesliga GmbH.

NINERS President Dr Micaela Schönherr: "After more than 20 years of NINERS, we have finally achieved promotion to the 1st Basketball Bundesliga, the greatest success in our club's history and a great opportunity for our sport and our city. However, the coronavirus pandemic and all its effects are presenting us with enormous economic challenges. That's why support from the city would send a strong signal and help us to tackle promotion on a solid foundation. At the same time, we would have the opportunity to get our city's name out into the world of basketball and be an ambassador for Chemnitz throughout Germany."
