City Treasurer provides information on the course of the financial year

City Treasurer Sven Schulze informed the members of the Administration and Finance Committee about the progress of the current financial year at today's meeting.

As at 30 June 2016, the city's trade tax income stood at 92.3 million euros.

Due to the subdued development of this source of income, the administration expects incoming payments to remain at the previous year's level until the end of the year, which is significantly below the planned figure of 108.7 million euros.

Income tax receipts, on the other hand, continue to develop positively. At the mid-year point, 16.8 million euros were recognised here, although payments for the second quarter are not yet included. Overall, the planned revenue of 65.6 million euros is expected to be achieved by the end of the year.

At 94.9 million euros, the city's personnel costs as at 30 June are just under half of the planned annual amount. City Treasurer Sven Schulze assumes that the planned expenditure of around 201.8 million euros will not be fully utilised.

The costs for the care and accommodation of asylum seekers are also likely to be lower in the current year due to the declining number of refugees. The city recorded expenses of 14 million euros in this area as at the middle of the year. 46.3 million had been budgeted for 2016 as a whole.

A similar trend is forecast for social assistance. Due to the city's favourable economic situation, the number of people in need of support is continuing to fall.

Of the 89.3 million euros planned for 2016, 40.4 million euros had been spent by the end of June. The administration is also expecting lower expenditure here compared to previous planning.

City Treasurer Sven Schulze: "Even though budget planning is naturally characterised by uncertainties, the development to date is encouraging. I assume that the shortfall planned for 2016 will not materialise in full. Nevertheless, consistent spending discipline is still required in order to adhere to the specified financial framework."
