City Treasurer Berthold Brehm officially bid farewell today
Mayor Barbara Ludwig: Berthold Brehm not only worked for Chemnitz, he lived for Chemnitz - Mayor takes over management of the Industrial Museum Association
After 25 years at Chemnitz City Council, Berthold Brehm, Mayor for Personnel, Finance and Organisation, was officially bid farewell today at midday. Friends, colleagues, companions and guests thanked the city treasurer in the Green Salon of Chemnitz City Hall. In recognition of his services, Berthold Brehm was able to sign the City of Chemnitz's Golden Book. The mayor, who celebrates his 64th birthday in three days' time, will hand over the reins to his successor Sven Schulze on 1 August.
"After a quarter of a century, Berthold Brehm is leaving a mayor who has not only worked for Chemnitz, but also lived for our city. What he has achieved for Chemnitz is a testimony to dedicated work and the courage to sometimes make uncomfortable decisions," said Mayor Barbara Ludwig, honouring Brehm's work and thanking him for his achievements. "It was fun to work with Mr Brehm to move the city forward."
Berthold Brehm, who holds a degree in business administration, was a personnel officer in Karlsruhe from 1976 to 1979, then became managing director of the CDU parliamentary group in Dortmund, later in Mannheim and joined Chemnitz City Council in August 1990 as Mayor of Department 1. He was elected to the position four times in succession by the city councillors. When it was time to take on the role of City Treasurer in the summer of 2011, he did not shy away from this challenge either.
Although he was not born in our city, he can be described as a Chemnitz native through and through, who, in addition to his work in the city administration, was also involved in various sports clubs on a voluntary basis - proof that Brehm lives his maxim "Success is spelt T-U-N".
"Doing is not just talking, it's deciding," says Berthold Brehm, who has no intention of retiring now. He will continue to work for the city administration until 31 July.
Berthold Brehm is expected to take over the management of the Zweckverband Industriemuseum from October in accordance with the decision of the Zweckverbandversammlung. Until then, he will be available to the association as deputy managing director from 1 August.
