City supports BSC Rapid Kappel with 250,000 euros for artificial turf pitch
Culture and Sports Committee approves the administration's draft resolution
The city of Chemnitz can now provide 250,000 euros from its budget for a long-planned construction project by BSC Rapid Kappel: The first construction phase for the construction of an artificial turf pitch can be realised with the quarter of a million euros. "The members of the Culture and Sports Committee gave the green light yesterday at their first meeting at the start of the new legislative period and unanimously approved the draft resolution B-166/2014 submitted by the administration.
The provision of 250,000 euros in investment funds for the special sports funding programme had been approved by the members of the former city council in their resolution on the 2014 budget with amendment number 46. The executive committee of the Chemnitz City Sports Association then decided that the investment funds for the I. Irkutsker Straße artificial turf pitch for BSC Rapid Chemnitz.
The total scope of the measure amounts to 800,000 euros, 650,000 of which will be spent in 2014. The second construction phase and thus the completion of the measure is to be made possible - subject to the decision on the 2015 budget - with a further grant from the city totalling 150,000 euros.
Background: The Saxon Football Association, District Football Association, City Sports Association and the football and hockey clubs concerned reached an agreement with the City of Chemnitz at the 2008 Football Summit on the need to build artificial turf pitches at four locations in Chemnitz (SG Handwerk Rabenstein, BSC Rapid, VfB Fortuna, Sportforum). Since then, three artificial turf pitches have been built and a fourth was built at the Eiche Reichenbrand club as a result of the 2013 floods and was inaugurated in July 2014. The artificial turf pitch at Jahnbaude has also been available for use since July 2014, meaning that the city of Chemnitz now has five artificial turf pitches. With the allocation of funds for BSC Rapid Chemnitz, which was approved by the committee yesterday, another artificial turf pitch can be built, which has long been desired by the club members.
BSC Rapid Chemnitz has been busy planning the project and carrying out preparatory measures (clearing the pitch, felling poplars, dismantling the old crossbars) since 2009 and has already invested more than €40,000 of its own funds in the project and also reduced the total cost of the project from the original €1.2 million to the current €800,000. The total costs are to be financed with a grant from the SAB totalling 240,000 euros, an investment grant from the City of Chemnitz totalling 400,000 euros (2014: 250,000 euros and 2015: 150,000 euros), the association's own funds in the form of a loan of 100,000 euros and the association's own contributions of 60,000 euros.
