City promotes green facades
Applications can be submitted until the end of the year
As a significant contribution to improving the local urban climate in densely populated, inner-city areas, the city of Chemnitz promotes the greening of façades on existing buildings. Initially, applications can be submitted until the end of the year within the subsidised area in the city centre. This includes heat islands and areas particularly affected by noise and pollutants according to the city of Chemnitz's climate function map.
Façade greening reduces heat stress in summer, increases thermal insulation in winter, contributes to noise protection and improves air quality. They also increase the attractiveness of an urban neighbourhood. They are good for people's health and help to protect plant and animal species.
The corresponding funding guideline was adopted by the city council at the end of September 2021. According to this, there are different funding quotas. In areas in zone A (red area), 75 per cent of the production costs are funded, up to a maximum of 5,000 euros. In zone B (yellow area), the subsidy amounts to 50 per cent of the production costs or a maximum of 2,500 euros. The production costs of a green façade include preparatory measures such as unsealing, soil preparation or soil replacement, the costs of implementation and material costs, for example for climbing aids or plants. The planning of the measure can also be subsidised.
Applications can be submitted by all "natural and legal" persons as long as they are authorised to do so for the property, e.g. building owners or tenant associations with the written consent of the owner.
