City presents social report 2012
The City of Chemnitz has presented its annual social report. The regular annual report provides information on selected social developments in the city, the main tasks of the social services department and social planning forecasts. The facts and figures in the report are supplemented by a description of the life situations of Chemnitz citizens.
Among other things, the report provides information on benefits for education and participation for children and young people (education package) in Chemnitz. A total of €2.05 million was spent, almost €0.7 million more than in 2011, with the benefits being utilised over 16,700 times and benefiting more than 9,000 children.
In order to reduce the workload for everyone involved, the Chemnitz Social Welfare Office has been working with a self-developed global application for all education package benefits since mid-2013.
The report also provides information on social benefits in old age, for example. In Chemnitz, less than 2% of senior citizens received basic old-age benefits in 2012. In total, around 8 million euros were spent on almost 1,700 old-age pensioners and pensioners with a full reduction in earning capacity.
The social welfare budget, which combines social welfare benefits, benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act and municipal benefits under SGB II, increased slightly in 2012 compared to 2011 (EUR 87.7 million) to EUR 87.9 million.
