City pool: 25-metre hall goes back into operation

Guided tours of the municipal pool technology on Saturday, 7 December

Extensive construction work has taken place at the municipal swimming pool in recent months. The outdated ventilation systems are due to be replaced. In addition, the damage caused by the floods at the beginning of June had to be repaired. In addition to the electrical system, pumps and the electronic control and regulation technology were also severely damaged by the flood. Experts estimated the flood damage at 350,000 euros: The heating and electrical systems had to be repaired, control technology relocated and the pump system repaired. In addition, planned, legally required maintenance work had to be carried out in the summer. Employees from 39 companies worked in the Stadtbadkeller. Due to complex processes, there were delays in the renewal of the ventilation systems and the fire protection upgrading of the air distribution systems, which had also begun. For this reason, the 25-metre hall remained closed. The pool in the hall has now been refilled since today. If the results of the legally required water tests allow, the 25-metre hall will be reopened on Monday, 25 November.

Guided tours of the pool technology

To mark the reopening of the 25-metre hall, the City of Chemnitz Sports Department is inviting technically interested members of the public to take part in guided tours of the indoor pool on Saturday, 7 December from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm - the meeting point is in the foyer of the city pool. Staff from the pool department will take this opportunity to show interested parties around the pool and take them down to the basement to the technical facilities, where they will explain how they work as well as the repairs that have already been carried out and those that are still pending. There will also be answers to the question of how technical innovations can save resources and thus optimise the operation of the pool.

In the next scheduled construction phase, during which the ventilation system will be completely renewed and fire safety precautions will be taken, the 50-metre swimming pool will have to remain closed from 6 January 2014 (see also PM 648 from 04.10.2013 - www.chemnitz.de). This construction work is expected to last until September 2014. Estimated costs: 2.4 million euros.
