City pays back parental contributions
At its meeting yesterday, the City Council confirmed the administration's proposal to refund the parental contributions paid on strike days.
Due to industrial action by employees in the social and educational services, the City of Chemnitz was only able to provide emergency care for children in daycare centres on eight days in May/June. The loss of childcare for parents was sometimes associated with considerable inconvenience and additional financial expense.
As a result of strike action by employees in the social and educational services in municipal daycare centres in connection with the wage disputes in 2015, parents will be reimbursed the pro rata parental contribution they have paid themselves in accordance with Section 7 of the statutes for daycare centres and daycare services for children dated 26 November 2008, as amended on 26 November 2008. In connection with the wage disputes in 2015, the self-paid pro rata parental contribution in accordance with Section 7 of the statutes for child day care facilities and child day care dated 26 November 2008, in the version dated 13 January 2009, in the version of the 3rd amendment dated 4 April 2011, in the version dated 7 November 2011, will be refunded.
The payment is made as a one-off voluntary payment of 1/20 per day of care lost for the period from 8 May 2015.
The pro rata reimbursement of the parental contribution when using the municipal emergency childcare is excluded.
Reimbursement will only be made on application and can be made after the final end of the strike measures - but from 9 July 2015 at the earliest. The deadline for applications is six weeks. Applications are available at the daycare centre, in the customer portal of the Social Welfare Office, Bahnhofstraße 53, ground floor and at www.chemnitz.de. Even if parents have already submitted an informal application, this form must still be submitted in order for the parental contributions to be reimbursed.
There is no legal entitlement to a refund of parental contributions.
A refund for the cancelled parental contributions would be of particular benefit to parents who have sought alternative childcare options or made arrangements with their employer or taken leave and compensate them for some of the inconvenience.
