City of Chemnitz wins prize in city centre competition

On Tuesday, 31 January, 16.30 p.m., Saxony's State Secretary for Economic Affairs Thomas Kralinski will present Mayor Sven Schulze with the special "Retail" prize from the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport (SMWA) in the "Ab in die Mitte - Die City-Offensive Sachsen" competition.

The award was presented at the beginning of the meeting of the Committee for Urban Development and Mobility in the City Council Chamber of the Town Hall in the presence of the project participants and representatives of the "Ab in die Mitte" initiative group. These include Jana Steeger, advisor at the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport, Bert Rothe, Deputy Managing Director of the Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Jörg Vulturius, Handelsverband Sachsen e. V. and Thomas Naumann, Managing Director of the Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce.V. and Thomas Naumann, Managing Director of Büro für Städtebau Chemnitz GmbH.

In November 2022, the city of Chemnitz was awarded two prizes in the "Ab in die Mitte - Die City-Offensive Sachsen" competition for its project entry "Augmented Reality - Experiences for Chemnitz city centre" - firstly with 3rd place in the overall competition and secondly with 3rd place in the "City of Chemnitz" competition. Firstly, third place in the overall competition and secondly, the special "Retail" prize from the SMWA - and thus won two prizes totalling 22,000 euros.

The award-winning digitalisation project creates a link between the digital and analogue worlds. In the style of established games such as "Pokemon-Go", you move through Chemnitz city centre using an app on your mobile phone, solve tasks and receive rewards that lead you to participating partners such as retailers, restaurateurs or service providers and are intended to create incentives to buy.

The city centre competition "Ab in die Mitte - Die City-Offensive Sachsen" is an initiative within the framework of public-private partnerships to give cities and municipalities new impetus for urban renewal and thus increase the attractiveness of city centres.
