City of Chemnitz upgrades electric cars
Chemnitz City Council will be using two new electric vehicles from March 2018. The two e-Golfs will be leased for a period of three years and will be used in the city administration's vehicle pool at the new Technical City Hall. The new electric vehicles will have a range of up to 300 kilometres.
One electric vehicle, a BMW i3, has already been in use in the municipal fleet since December 2016. The BMW i3 is in regular use and the number of users is steadily increasing. Electric trolleys are also used at Chemnitz Zoo and the Education and Sports Department.
"Electric cars will play an increasingly important role in the city's mobility strategy in the future," emphasises Mayor Sven Schulze.
The city administration will prioritise the purchase of electric vehicles for upcoming new procurements, taking into account economic efficiency and the area of use. The aim is to gradually increase the number of electric vehicles and further develop the corresponding framework conditions, for example by expanding the charging infrastructure.
