City of Chemnitz to award architecture prize in future
Chemnitz City Council adopts statutes on the awarding of the prize
The City of Chemnitz Architecture Prize will be awarded for the first time in 2018 and under the patronage of the Lord Mayor every three years. The prize is intended to honour current, outstanding achievements in architecture, open space and urban planning that have a lasting impact on the cityscape. The decisive factors are innovation, quality and complexity of the building projects.
Architects and developers who have realised a building project or an open space themselves are eligible to apply. Conversions and refurbishments of existing buildings are also eligible, provided they can demonstrate their own creative design work. Both private and public developers and architects are eligible to submit entries. The property must have been realised in the city of Chemnitz in the previous three years and completed at the time of application. Buildings constructed in the previous five years are also eligible for the first award.
The architecture prize is a non-material honour and is therefore not endowed. A maximum of three main prizes are to be awarded, consisting of a certificate and a plaque. The prize-winning building also receives a plaque with the most important information about the building itself and the client or architect. The award ceremony will be publicised and will take place as part of the Day of Architecture. All entries submitted will be publicly exhibited and published both on the Internet and in a catalogue. The independent jury is expected to consist of a maximum of seven people. The award ceremony is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2018.
