City of Chemnitz tests new speed measuring device
The Chemnitz public order office is expected to put an additional speed measuring device into operation from next week. This is a trailer vehicle equipped with the measuring device. The operating name "Enforcement Trailer" comes from the measuring device manufacturer VITRONIC. Initially, speed checks will be carried out at various locations in the city on a rental basis for three months. The costs for this amount to 15,000 euros. A decision on possible permanent deployment in the city area will be made at the beginning of August.
The "enforcement trailer" is equipped with an independent power supply based on high-performance batteries, which enables uninterrupted measurement operation for five days. In order to extend the measuring operation, the batteries used can be easily replaced on site. VITRONIC's POLISCAN SPEED LIDAR measurement technology is used. With laser speed measurement, all vehicles can be detected simultaneously across several lanes. The "Enforcement Trailer" thus offers fully autonomous, multi-day measurement operation without the need for personnel, which leads to a significant increase in efficiency.
The "Enforcement Trailer" can be towed by almost any vehicle with a trailer coupling. It also has its own drive with remote control for easy and precise alignment at the measurement location. The measuring device is particularly suitable for use in places where speed measurement with mobile equipment is not possible due to the danger to the measuring officers and system. The trailer is equipped with an independent power supply based on high-performance batteries, which enables uninterrupted measurement operation over several days. Various design measures have been taken to protect the system against vandalism, including a sealed and bullet-proof cover and an efficient alarm system.
