City of Chemnitz receives confirmation for reconstruction measures after the June floods
The City of Chemnitz has received confirmation from the Free State for the measures in the reconstruction plan for the 2013 floods. It confirms the eligibility for funding for a total of 85 public infrastructure measures that the City of Chemnitz had reported to the Free State as flood damage and thus applied for funding. The list totals around 17.5 million euros. The funding applications must now be substantiated in detail.
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "The Free State has worked quickly and well here. The state has thus created the conditions to ensure that the repair of the flood damage can continue without delay. This is important for those affected and also for the skilled trades in the region."
The largest single item, at around 4.4 million euros, is the renewal of the railway line on Annaberger Straße. Signalling and control systems were destroyed here by the floods.

- Annenschule: 400,000 euros
- Tietz: 190,000 euros
- Talsperrengrund bridge: 300,000 euros
- Municipal swimming pool: 367,000 euros
- SV Eiche Reichenbrand (sports ground): 722,000 euros
- VfB Fortuna Chemnitz (social and club building, heating): 364,000 euros
- TSV Germania Chemnitz (heating): 15,000 euros
- Chemnitz Athletes' Club (heating): 13,000 euros
In addition to repairing the damage, a whole series of measures will also benefit flood protection. For example, bank walls of the Chemnitz at Luxor will be renewed (approx. 600,000 euros) and some bridges will be demolished or rebuilt. This includes the bridge on the Inselsteig (Zwönitz, 500,000 euros) and embankment walls on the Chemnitz, Zwönitz and Würschnitz. Around 90,000 euros will be invested in the repair of damage and the new extension of the flood defences at the Klaffenbach moated castle.
