City of Chemnitz plans reorganisation of economic development

The City of Chemnitz is planning to reorganise its business development activities. Lord Mayor Sven Schulze informed the Supervisory Board and employees of Chemnitzer Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (CWE) about this today.
A new "Business" division is to be established directly under the Lord Mayor, which will bring together the previous employees of the "Business and Digitalisation" staff unit and the employees involved in business promotion and development at CWE.
The new organisational unit will deal with all issues relating to business promotion, business services, location and settlement management and the development of skilled workers. This concentration close to the top of the administration is intended to strengthen competences and effectiveness.
In future, the CWE will be responsible for city marketing, tourism and special projects.
The proposal, which will now first be submitted to the city council, envisages implementing the new structure by the middle of the year. The plan is for the city council to pass a resolution in principle on the new structure in March.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "During the election campaign, I promised that the economy in Chemnitz would become a top priority. The reorganisation I have now proposed will make this even more successful. Many economic development issues require quick and target-orientated action by the administration and also my personal commitment. It is therefore logical that the structures should also be streamlined and focussed on this. By concentrating the CWE on the areas of city marketing and tourism, we can also make more targeted and effective progress with regard to the European Capital of Culture 2025. The European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH and the CWE will thus jointly organise a wonderful experience for the people of Chemnitz as well as for the many visitors from outside the city."
According to the Lord Mayor's plans, around half of the CWE employees are expected to transfer to the city administration, while the other half will remain there. The current managing director, Sören Uhle, will continue to run the company with the changed range of tasks.
