City of Chemnitz joins working group to promote cycling and pedestrian traffic
The city of Chemnitz will join the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft sächsischer Kommunen zur Förderung des Rad- und Fußverkehrs e.V." (Working Group of Saxon Municipalities for the Promotion of Cycling and Pedestrian Traffic). This was decided today by the city council. With the AG, the Free State is following a number of other federal states that already have such an organisation.
One of its aims is to advise its members on funding opportunities for cycling and walking projects. In addition, the planners of the member municipalities should be able to exchange ideas, organise workshops on the topic or develop joint standard solutions. Joint research projects and public relations work will also be organised. Possible topics include green wave campaigns for cycle traffic, increased use of bicycles on the way to school and work or information on looking over your shoulder when turning right.
The working group was founded by eight Saxon municipalities on 7 March 2019. The Free State of Saxony has pledged to support the establishment of the working group's office. Membership is linked to an annual membership fee, which depends on the size of the municipality.
