City of Chemnitz honoured with 60,000 euros donation
Organisations for socially disadvantaged people each receive 20,000 euros
Social Mayor Ralph Burghart received a donation of 60,000 euros from the Bethe Foundation in the past few days. The Bethe Foundation was established in 1996 by Mr and Mrs Bethe to promote charitable causes.
"I was delighted to receive the offer of a donation from the Bethe Foundation to social organisations in the city of Chemnitz. Especially in the current situation, this is very important. The donation will go to support the food bank and organisations for the homeless," said Mayor Ralph Burghart. "Many thanks to the Bethe Foundation for its commitment in Chemnitz."
Chemnitzer Tafel e.V., the "Haltestelle" day centre for the homeless run by Stadtmission Chemnitz e.V. and the homeless facility run by Selbsthilfe 91 e.V. will each receive 20,000 euros.
On Thursday, 4 June at 1.30 pm, Mayor Ralph Burghart will symbolically hand over the donation to the facilities in front of the town hall in the presence of Bethe Foundation board members Roswitha Bethe and her son Florian. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to the photo opportunity.

The foundation supports the establishment of children's hospices as well as facilities that protect children and young people from violence and abuse. Other aspects include analysing Jewish history, promoting refugee projects and supporting integration. The foundation increases its impact by regularly doubling donations from the public up to a pledged funding amount. The Bethe Foundation has now distributed around 30 million euros.
The foundation is looking for imitators who would also like to donate to organisations for socially disadvantaged people. It is therefore asking potential supporters to donate directly to the food banks.
