City of Chemnitz commemorates deceased honorary citizen Carl Hahn
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze honours a great Chemnitz resident
The city of Chemnitz mourns the death of Carl Hahn. The honorary citizen of the city died yesterday at the age of 96. Hahn, who was born in Chemnitz in 1926, managed the Volkswagen Group from 1982 to 1993 and played a major role in the rebuilding of the automotive industry in Chemnitz and Saxony after reunification. In June 1994, he was made an honorary citizen of Chemnitz for his great economic commitment to the region.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "In Carl Hahn, we are losing a great entrepreneur and person who always remained close to the city of his birth. My condolences go out to his family. He personally made a significant contribution to the reorganisation and successful economic development of Chemnitz as a traditional automotive location after 1990. We can still build on this today. At my last meeting with him in September 2021 in the town hall, I was able to experience the great interest he continued to take in Chemnitz and its development. For me, he was a truly exemplary personality who combined entrepreneurial success with social responsibility and a down-to-earth attitude. A man with many interests, an alert mind and a clear view of future challenges and necessities. We have a lot to thank him for. He will be missed. We will always honour his memory."
