City of Chemnitz closes all municipal event venues
Administration makes further arrangements for the necessary tasks
Three more cases of corona infection have been confirmed in the city of Chemnitz. This brings the total number of cases in the city to six. Mayor Barbara Ludwig announced this at a press conference together with the mayors. If necessary, emergency plans are being implemented within the administration to ensure that the most important services and necessary support services are available.
The City of Chemnitz has decided to close public municipal facilities up to and including Easter Monday, 13 April 2020. This affects, among others:
- Chemnitz Municipal Theatre (all facilities),
- all C3 facilities (Stadthalle, exhibition centre, Klaffenbach moated castle and stadium),
- EFC Chemnitz (all facilities),
- municipal museums,
- the municipal facilities in the TIETZ (district libraries);
- the zoo, game reserve and botanical garden,
- indoor swimming pools,
- sports and training centres,
- environmental centre.
At the same time, clubs with their own sports halls are asked to suspend training and match operations.
All parents are asked to prepare for the closure of day-care centres, schools and after-school care centres. The Free State of Saxony announced this afternoon that compulsory schooling will be cancelled from Monday, but that schools will remain open for the time being. However, a closure is being prepared. Municipal companies and companies providing services of general interest are also being asked to adapt their emergency plans in order to ensure the necessary basic services: This applies in particular to CVAG, ASR/ESC, eins and Sparkasse.
All events with more than 1000 people have been cancelled due to the decree of the Free State of Saxony. All other public events with a number of participants of 100 people or more must still be reported to the public health department using the form for organisers.

The City of Chemnitz is also cancelling all public events organised by it with immediate effect. This applies, for example, to the awarding of the honour prize, the "Leselust" literature days, the residents' meetings and the awarding of the Stefan Heym Prize. The town council meeting on 25 March has also been postponed.
The municipal health department will remain closed to visitors with immediate effect in order to concentrate on dealing with the coronavirus situation until further notice. Central e-mail addresses and hotlines are being prepared in offices with a lot of visitor traffic (Citizens' Office, Social Welfare Office, Youth Welfare Office, Cash and Tax Office, Public Order Office) in order to reduce the number of personal consultations
