Music club: Elective affinities between the arts

Berlin composer Prof. Paul-Heinz Dittrich talks about his artistic friendship with the intermedia avant-garde artist Carlfriedrich Claus, accompanied by music from Ensemble 01. Moderated by Brigitta Milde and Prof. Dr Christoph Sramek

Organiser: A cooperation between the Chemnitzer Musikverein, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz and Ufer e. V. / Klangwerk - Neue Musik.

Exhibition: 14-18 WAR WAS | Bildwechsel with informative vernissage

Corresponding to the period of the First World War from 1 August 1914 to 11 November 1918, the Schlossberg Museum, in cooperation with the Department of Romance Cultural Studies/TU Chemnitz, will be showing a photograph from its collection of historical images relating to the events of the war every month until November 2018 as part of the "14-18 WAR WAS" project.

The change of images will be accompanied by a short introduction and a free lecture.

Tina Schütze: Become the woman of your life

As a personal trainer, Tina Schütze trains very different women who, at first glance, should all be completely happy and content (with themselves). But instead of enjoying themselves and their lives, many of them are hard on themselves. With her work, she wants to help women to allow themselves to love themselves. In a charming and original way, Tina Schütze paves the way to more serenity and lightness in life. She helps to utilise hidden potential, discover strengths and expose limiting attitudes. An exciting journey to more self-confidence, creativity and mindfulness.

Tina Schütze, born in Karl-Marx-Stadt, studied journalism, theatre and cultural studies in Leipzig. She is a fitness and health coach, journalist and author. Her articles appear in ELTERN and HAPPY WAY, among others. Tina Schütze has two children and lives in Berlin.

Reading: Eberhard Görner: Walter Jurmann - His life, his music

musically accompanied by Hartmut Behrsing (piano) and Jörn Behrsing (bassoon)

Veronika, spring is here! - This hit song, immortalised by the Comedian Harmonists, is due to Walter Jurmann (1903 - 1971), but many other hits from the 1920s and 1930s were penned by him. Jurmann was an ingenious inventor of melodies: he effortlessly covered a wide variety of genres - Viennese waltzes, Berlin hits, Parisian chansons and American jazz songs - and famous performers such as Richard Tauber, Jan Kiepura, Hans Albers and Willy Fritsch sang his songs. He left Nazi Germany in 1933 to follow the call to Hollywood via Paris, where he was also successful as a film composer. There he wrote for cinema hits with the Marx Brothers (Scandal at the Opera), Judy Garland (Everybody Sing!), Clark Gable (Mutiny on the Bounty) and many more. With a lively writing style, Eberhard Görner reports on Jurmann's eventful life, which the reader also learns about through exclusive interviews with his widow Yvonne.

Eberhard Görner, born in 1944 in Niederwürschnitz in the Ore Mountains, studied German language and literature, history, directing and dramaturgy. He is the author of award-winning productions for film and television, including "Der Leutnant Yorck von Wartenburg", "Selbstversuch" and "Nikolaikirche".

Michael Bittner reads "We train for capitalism" columns and satires

In his stories, Michael Bittner tells sometimes autobiographical, sometimes satirically exaggerated tales of a youth in resistance, love in times of promotion and demand and the beauty of the senseless. We meet a Kafkaesque doorman, an archly clever dwarf and snails in the struggle for existence. Michael Bittner is a sceptical observer of everyday life with a sense for the comedy of our life's lies, but at the same time a melancholy moralist who has not made peace with the circumstances.

Küf Kaufmann: Vodka is always kosher

A novel about drinking and life

Vodka loosens the tongue, fires the heart, gets the storytelling going. Küf Kaufmann looks back on his turbulent life between the Black Sea and the shores of Saxony. With charm and subtlety, he tells of the adventures of love, the temptations of art and the difficulties one encounters as a Russian in Germany and as a Jew in Russia.

Küf Kaufmann was born in 1947 in Marx, Russia. He worked for 20 years as a director at the "Leningrad Music Hall". He has lived in Germany since 1990, where he has appeared in numerous TV productions. He has directed cabaret theatre and performed nationwide with Bernd-Lutz Lange and Griseldis Wenner. Küf Kaufmann is chairman of the Jewish Religious Community in Leipzig and a member of the Central Council of Jews in Germany.

Read aloud: On quiet soles... Stories to listen to

performed for everyone with keen ears

When you are invited to the event "Auf leisen Sohlen..." in the city library, you have to be very quiet and prick up your ears, because the reading mentors come to visit and read out exciting stories. They take both young and older listeners into colourful fantasy worlds with great pleasure. The literature-loving readers read the latest children's books, classics, "bestsellers" from their own childhood or even texts they have written themselves in the atmospheric reading tent in the Kinderwelt.

Star Wars Reads Day - extra-galactic reading and activity day all about the Star Wars heroes

We read episodes from the new Star Wars books, a rally invites children to make galactic figures, take part in a Star Wars quiz, test board and electronic games and take a photo with the Star Wars star guest; each participant receives a Star Wars certificate.

The city library has a new offer for pupils from secondary schools, grammar schools, technical colleges and vocational schools: a consultation hour for research papers.

We help with research in library catalogues and online databases and offer free self-help for effective research.
