City library offers pick-up service during the lockdown

Although Chemnitz City Library is expected to be closed until 14 February due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be offering its customers the opportunity to collect pre-ordered media themselves from Monday, 25 January. Books, CDs, films, games and magazines can be borrowed and returned by appointment at the central library in the TIETZ.

The service is offered from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. via the cloakroom lockers on the 3rd floor of the TIETZ.

For last-minute new customers, it is also possible to register online in advance.

This is how the contactless lending service works:

1. customers of the Chemnitz City Library search at home from the online catalogue: https://opac2.stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de for up to a maximum of ten items from the Central Library's stock that can also be borrowed.

2. they then contact the City Library, stating their library card number, telephone number or e-mail address and the desired titles, from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 0371 488 4222 or by e-mail information(at)stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de.

3. customers will be informed after successful provision. They will receive a collection time, a locker number and the necessary PIN code for the locker in the Central Library.

4. borrowed media can be returned via the automatic return machine during collection.

5. the library card is required for legitimisation when entering the TIETZ.

Hygiene rules:

1. the contactless media lending service in the central library in the TIETZ with appointment allocation (in accordance with the valid Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance) is offered as long as the incidence in Chemnitz is below the 200 mark. If the incidence of infection increases, the service will be cancelled.

2. access to the Central Library is only permitted for the collection of ordered media and the return of borrowed media. Only users with a valid library card and wearing the correct face covering may enter the building.

3. a ban on access applies to all persons who are or have been in contact with a person infected with the coronavirus if 14 days have not yet passed since the last contact and to all persons who show typical symptoms of an infection with the coronavirus such as odour and taste disorders, fever, cough and sore throat.
