City library now also open on Wednesdays

First customer is welcomed with flowers Invitation to the photo session on 7 September 2016, 2 p.m.

For the first time since 1869, the central library of Chemnitz City Library will be open on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in addition to its regular opening hours from Wednesday, 7 September 2016. The library will personally welcome the first customer on 7 September 2016 at 2 pm with a bouquet of flowers at TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20.

Representatives of the press are cordially invited to attend this event for a photo.

The extended opening hours are made possible by the use of RFID technology, with which media returns and bookings can now also be carried out automatically in the district libraries and the resulting shift in staff capacity.

The additional opening hours on Wednesdays fulfil a long-held wish of many customers. Visitors and library customers can now use over 200,000 current media items every weekday. Equipped with PC technology and free WLAN, the facility is an ideal and centralised place to study and work. Comfortable seating invites you to linger, read, listen and play.

A reduced service is offered during the additional opening hours on Wednesdays. Among other things, specialised advice from library staff and the use of stacks and interlibrary loans are not possible. Return machines, self-checkout and the online catalogue are available for independent use by customers.
