"3D printing" - a constructive manufacturing process - is a buzzword on everyone's lips and is a topic that not only inspires industry, but also the centre of our society. 3D printers are more than just simple CNC machines. Behind them lies an incredibly large cosmos: whether developments, experiments, repair culture, the open source scene or the maker movement.
The workshop is designed to give anyone interested a brief insight into this world. In the two hours, an overview of current technologies will be given, which will be illustrated using many interesting examples and an active 3D printer. In addition to providing information on the current possibilities, the event will also encourage participants to delve deeper into the subject.

Peter Schmidt: Out of the ordinary - practical autism knowledge from someone who should know

Location: TIETZ, event hall
Participation: free of charge
Registration at information(at)stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de or phone 0371 488 4222

The author presents stories and anecdotes from his life under the motto of his latest work. He will read chapters from his works "Ein Kaktus zum Valentinstag", "Der Junge vom Saturn" and "Kein Anschluss unter diesem Kollegen". These illustrate autistic perception and its effects in school, work, relationships and everyday life. In this way, it becomes clear in an entertaining and factual way what inclusion in practice can look like.
Dr Peter Schmidt is a qualified geophysicist, IT expert, author and speaker. After starting his career as a scientist, he moved to the IT department of a large pharmaceutical company almost 25 years ago. Since then, he has worked there in various roles, first as a programmer, then as a project and system manager and currently as an international coordinator for IT projects specialising in SAP software. Schmidt is now 56 years old. He married in 1993 and has two children. It was only at the age of 41 that he discovered, without looking for it, that he was autistic. When asked by medical specialists whether this was true, they said that his autism in the form of Asperger's syndrome was classic, but that what he had done with his life was completely atypical.

The film "Farewell and Arrival" (104 min) documents the preparations for the transfer of the library from Heym's study in Berlin-Grünau to the Stefan Heym Forum in his native city of Chemnitz. Supplemented by numerous archive recordings from contemporary appearances and interviews with Stefan Heym, filmmaker Beate Kunath has succeeded in creating a sensitive double portrait that offers surprising new insights into Heym's life and literary work.

Wednesday, 14 September, 7 p.m.
DOMA - musical spoken word performance with Jessie James LaFleur and Natasha Jaffe

Venue: TIETZ, event hall
Admission: 8 euros, reduced 6 euros
Registration at information(at)stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de or phone 0371 488 4222

DOMA literally means "home" and describes a place that Jessy James LaFleur has never found and has long since stopped looking for. She is a paper aeroplane that sails from one place to the next, reading texts that deal with leaving, but also with arriving, lived activism and the longing for a real home. Her stories are accompanied by the melodic sounds of Berlin cellist Natasha Jaffe, who has composed exclusive pieces for the stirring and emotional contributions, which will be played live on stage and seem to merge with Jessy's lines.
