Women in Chemnitz society: Arrived and arrived
Round table: Women with a migration background in dialogue

Diversity and equality are often talked about far too superficially. In most cases, those affected don't even get a chance to speak. At the round table of women with a migration background, women with different ethnocultural or linguistic backgrounds speak up for their concerns themselves. They openly discuss needs, opportunities, work, self-help and how integration - i.e. arriving in society - can work and what support is needed. Graziela Hennig, project coordinator and host of the event, will present the PROFIL+ project (a mentoring project by and for women with a migration background, in which knowledge, skills and contacts are imparted to help women progress both privately and professionally). Stefan Schwarz "To the core - How I got cancer and cleaned up my life"

When Stefan Schwarz was diagnosed with cancer in his mid-fifties, he was almost relieved. At least now the self-confessed hypochondriac no longer has to worry about getting it. Schwarz knows all about existential upheavals, and as a man of comedy and self-irony, in this book he not only embarks on a journey through the special worlds of oncological therapy, but also to the dark side of his life to see the constraints and defeats that gave rise to his humour. A book full of cheerful clarity about the things in life, a roadmap for people in a similar situation, by a storyteller who has to tell himself a new story in order to find the strength to bring himself and not least his family into a more "healing" world.

Verena Keßler tells the story of women who find their own answers. Verena Keßler, born in Hamburg in 1988, lives in Leipzig, where she studied at the German Literature Institute. Her debut novel "Die Gespenster von Demmin" (2020) was nominated for and honoured with numerous awards.

In his new book "Aufs Land. Ways out of the climate crisis, monoculture and consumer compulsion", environmentalist Ernst Paul Dörfler explains what a free and self-determined life means and how it can work. Whether you live in the city or in the country, this book is a wake-up call and shows perspectives for a free, environmentally and climate-friendly life. Ernst Paul Dörfler, born in 1950 in Kemberg near Lutherstadt Wittenberg, holds a doctorate in ecochemistry. His book Zurück zur Natur? (1986) became a cult book of the East German environmental movement. He has been honoured with numerous awards, including the EURONATUR Prize from the European Natural Heritage Foundation. His book Nest Warmth was published in 2019. What we can learn from birds. An event organised by the BUND Chemnitz regional group in cooperation with the city library.

Our obstacle course makes finding out your own footprint a playful experience.

Exhibition on the Chemnitz Environmental Award for Children and Young People 2023
Location: Central library, library laboratory
The Chemnitz Environmental Prize for Children and Young People has been awarded annually since 1991. It serves to sensitise young people to the need to treat the environment with care as the basis of human life. This year, 26 projects were submitted by 668 children and young people. The exhibition presents the results of the winners.

75 years: "Crusaders of today"

No other work by Stefan Heym has been translated into other languages as often and gone through as many editions as his World War II epic "The Crusaders", published in the United States in 1948. The novel about the liberation of Europe from fascism and the betrayal of ideals, which was strongly influenced by his own experiences as a sergeant in the US army, made Heym famous as a writer internationally and for the first time to the German reading public. The book was published in the GDR in 1950 under the title "Crusader of Today" and in West Germany at almost the same time as "The Bitter Laurel". An event organised by the International Stefan Heym Society to mark the United Nations World Day of Peace on 21 September.
