The Dutch bestselling author Jessica Durlacher returns to the birthplace of her grandmother Erna Solomonica for a matinee event. Last year, she concluded the reading event "Das demokratische Chemnitz liest!" with a presentation of the newly compiled memoirs of her father, Holocaust survivor Gerhard Durlacher.
The discussion is dedicated to her book "Arthuro d'Alberti", which has not yet been translated into German. Arthuro d'Alberti was the stage name of her grandfather, who studied singing at the Munich Conservatory, then worked as a salesman for the Chemnitz fashion brand "Venus", found his true calling once again on the stage of the camp cabaret in Westerbork and was murdered in Bergen-Belsen in May 1945.
Jessica Durlacher provides moving insights into her own family history and follows the musical paths of her life. The matinee will be congenially accompanied on the piano by pianist Jeffrey Goldberg, who will reflect on the conversation with improvisations and musical quotations.
A cooperative event organised by Buntmacher*innen e. V. and Chemnitz City Library as part of the "TACHELES - Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony" theme year.
Supported by the City of Chemnitz's cultural funding programme and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. This event is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.

The armed Jewish resistance against the fascist genocides during the Second World War is rightly regarded as a hallmark of the collective will to survive. The uprisings in the Warsaw Ghetto and in the Treblinka and Sobibór extermination camps were the high points of such self-assertion. Jewish resistance, however, was broader.
