In her old home, Hana wants to find out what divided her family back then. She takes us on a journey into the lost world of the 1980s, the time before the "Velvet Revolution" in Czechoslovakia.

He was born on 9 March 1814 and died on 10 March 1861, which is why Ukrainians all over the world commemorate the "Father of the Nation" in March.

Interference: Stefan Heym and Friedrich Schorlemmer - Annotated reading
Venue: TIETZ, Stefan Heym Forum
Admission: 3 euros, reduced 1.50 euros

1983: Protestant theologian and civil rights activist Friedrich Schorlemmer symbolically forges a sword into a ploughshare and plays a key role in shaping the independent peace movement in the GDR. "I will never forget the motivation and inspiration that came from Stefan Heym, Christa Wolf, Günter de Bruyn and Franz Fühmann in the days of the independent church peace movement from 1980 onwards," he says. Two great thinkers, two speakers at the rally on Alexanderplatz on 4 November 1989, two "meddlers" who could not remain silent. But this was not the first time the two had met. The evening follows their traces into the 1990s.

An event organised by the International Stefan Heym Society.

Michal Ajvaz and Lukáš Cabala: Between Mirror and Memory - Fantastic Reading Worlds from Leipzig and Trenčín
Translation and moderation: Stefanie Bose
Venue: TIETZ, event hall
Admission: free of charge

When reality shifts and the familiar cracks: two novels, two voices - united in the art of the fantastic.

In "The Passages", Michal Ajvaz creates a multi-layered labyrinth of spaces, reflections and time shifts - a poetic adventure in which Leipzig becomes the stage for a metaphysical exploration of the everyday.
In "Do you remember, Trenčín?", Lukáš Cabala leads us through landscapes of memory in which the past and present merge imperceptibly.
Both authors allow the real to tilt, open hidden doors between dream and experience and show how close reality and imagination can be.
A double reading that lifts reality out of its cracks - and transports us for an evening into a different order of things.

In co-operation with Allee Verlag Munich.
