City library events in June 2022

Wednesday, 1 June, 5.30 pm - International Children's Day

Book premiere: Knight Rosa and the little dragon Brülee

A book by Silke Bauer-Hollenbach (Dorfchemnitz) for children aged 6 and over.

Venue: TIETZ, Central Library, Event Hall

Admission: free of charge

Princess Rosa hates the colour pink. Even though that's her own name. She often gets into trouble with her parents because she doesn't want to behave like a real princess. Instead, Rosa loves riding through the countryside with her faithful pony Trovitt, wild as the Bohemian wind and getting really dirty in the process.

One day, Rosa and Trovitt make friends with the little dragon Brülee. Everyone in the kingdom thinks he is dangerous. But he prefers to hide in his cave all the time. He has been insecure since he once accidentally caused a forest fire while breathing fire. But Rosa doesn't accept this and takes Brülee into the castle without further ado and hides him there.

The brave girl, her faithful pony and the little dragon have to survive many exciting, funny and unusual adventures before Princess Rosa becomes Knight Rosa.

Heike Geißler - The week

Venue: TIETZ, event hall

Admission: 8 euros / 6 euros, registration at the information desk: 0371 4884366

This is the novel of an unusual week in Leipzig, in which Monday is no longer followed by Tuesday, old certainties are lost and new forms of speaking and acting in solidarity are tried out - in exaggeration, digression, folly and play. It is a lucid commentary on our present, a plea for fun, intelligent protest and the struggle for vitality - radically subjective and highly political.

Heike Geißler was born in Riesa in 1977 and grew up there and in Chemnitz.

She is an author, translator and co-editor of the magazine series Lücken kann man lesen. Her most recent publications include the reportage novel Saisonarbeit (Spector Books, 2014), the question booklet and radio play Fragen für alle as well as the collaborative literature project Check your habitus, curated by Daniela Dröscher. She works with actress Charlotte Puder as the collective George Bele. Heike Geißler has been honoured with numerous scholarships and prizes and now lives in Leipzig.

Wednesday, 8 June, 5.30 pm

Saxon book case spring 2022, Kaśka Bryla reads from "Die Eistaucher"

Location: TIETZ, central library, event hall

Admission: free of charge, registration at the information desk: 0371 4884366

Bettina Baltschev, Managing Director of the Saxon Literature Council, recommends ten remarkable new publications for spring 2022 by writers, poets and translators in and from Saxony.

Afterwards, author Kaśka Bryla will read from her book "Die Eistaucher".

Iga, the skater, the beautiful Jess and the chubby Ras are outsiders in their school class, but together they form a close-knit group, the inseparable "ice divers". When the youngsters witness a brutal police assault one night and there are no consequences, they decide to take the law into their own hands.

Kaśka Bryla grew up between Vienna and Warsaw - studied economics and literary writing - is co-founder of the literary magazine and author network "PS-Politisch Schreiben" - her debut novel "Roter Affe" was published in 2020 - prefers to live and work in collective contexts.

An event organised by the Saxon Literature Council in cooperation with the State Specialist Centre for Libraries and Chemnitz City Library.

Homecoming. Stefan Heym as an American soldier in Chemnitz, spring 1945

Annotated reading

Venue: Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology (smac)

Admission: 3 euros, reduced 2 euros (free admission for members of the participating associations)

A few weeks after the end of the Second World War, Stefan Heym, a non-commissioned officer in the American armed forces stationed in Germany, set off on his own to his heavily destroyed hometown of Chemnitz. It was his first reunion with the city since his escape from the National Socialists in March 1933. During his stay, which lasted only a few hours, Heym travelled to important places from his youth and childhood, searched for his father's grave and met with officers from the Soviet commandant's office. This resulted in a series of impressive photographs, which have been preserved in Stefan Heym's estate and are presented here in full for the first time.

A joint event organised by the International Stefan Heym Society, the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology (smac) and the Chemnitz History Society.

Contemporary witness talk with Heinfried Henniger

Venue: TIETZ, Stefan Heym Forum in Tietz, 3rd floor

Admission: 6 euros, reduced 3 euros, contact: heym.gesellschaft(at)stadt-chemnitz.de

Towards the end of 1973 - Stefan Heym celebrated his 60th birthday in April - an extraordinary novel was published by the Berlin book publisher Der Morgen: "Der König David Bericht". Published a year earlier in West Germany, the novel became a political and literary event in the GDR, and rightly so. The Honecker state had surprisingly lifted its publication ban. Stefan Heym cunningly brought a gripping and bloody episode from the Old Testament into the present and thus made the cult of personality, the arbitrariness of rulers and the behaviour of a totalitarian-coloured "court" appear timeless. Heinfried Henniger worked closely with Stefan Heym as an editor for the book publisher Der Morgen from the 1970s onwards. The evening will be hosted by Dr Ulrike Uhlig.

Campaign week for the "3rd Nationwide Digital Day" in the city library

Admission: free of charge, registration requested at www.stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de/biblab-c/veranstaltungen

Traces in the sand disappear quickly, traces online are more persistent and sometimes last forever. But how quickly do we leave our footprint online? Because it's not just what we enter ourselves in social networks that is saved. Clicks, page views, etc. also contribute to the creation of extensive user profiles when surfing the web. Immense default settings and incomprehensible cookie regulations give companies a detailed picture of who is sitting in front of their computer or smartphone. In our workshop, we will show you how we can move around the web more anonymously and securely with a few simple tricks and still not have to do without anything when surfing.

Please bring your own smartphone/tablet to the event if you have one.
