Exhibition "It's getting worse..."
Perception of crime and the image of criminals in Germany - poster exhibition by the Centre for Criminological Research Saxony

Police-recorded offences in Germany fell for many years, but rose again for the first time in 2022: More registered burglaries, more registered youth violence, more cybercrime. The fear of crime has always been high over the years, seemingly regardless of these figures. What is the connection between actual and perceived crime? And what other factors play a role in the fear of crime?
The Centre for Criminological Research Saxony (ZKFS) has conducted a Germany-wide study with over 5,000 respondents on the perception of crime and criminals. From a criminological perspective, the perception of criminal offences, offenders and criminality is strongly influenced by threat perceptions, ideological and political attitudes and stereotypes. In addition, there are social factors that influence this perception, such as demographics, neighbourhood, social status and actual crime. The exhibition presents the results of this study.

We present multiplayer games mainly with a co-operative character from the genres of action RPG, beat'em up, shooter and retro games and invite you to play along. PlayStation4, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck as well as our VR glasses Meta Quest will be used.

Guided tour through the Stefan Heym Forum and film screening

The film documents the preparations for the transfer of the library from Heym's study in Berlin-Grünau to the Stefan Heym Forum in his native city of Chemnitz. Supplemented by numerous archive recordings from contemporary appearances and interviews with Stefan Heym, director Beate Kunath has succeeded in creating a sensitive double portrait
that offers surprising new insights into Heym's life and literary work.

Beekeeper Marcus Frenzel is a guest at the city library and will be chatting a little from the hive. You will learn all sorts of interesting facts about bees, for example why they are so endangered and how we can help the insects. Of course, you will also have the opportunity to ask your own questions and borrow suitable media from us. We'll also get creative together making bee crafts.

Book Summer Saxony

All boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 16 who enjoy reading can become members of the city library's summer reading club. Hundreds of brand new thrillers, mystery and fantasy novels and topical stories about love and life are available to club members.
Registration is free and uncomplicated.
Anyone who has finished three books by 19 August will receive a certificate and be invited to the closing party after the summer holidays.
